When We Were Young is a collaborative painting that plays with balance, nostalgia, and layered storytelling.
The process begins with discussion of colour, placement, and tone. Emma paints the base, establishing structure and realism, before Struan adds bold, graffiti-like marks. Emma then returns, refining details so the added layers sit seamlessly within the work.
It’s a dialogue between control and disruption, realism and intervention — two approaches merging into a single, resolved image.
