OUR STORY

Thirteen 05 is a boutique art gallery in the heart of Daylesford, Victoria, founded by husband-and-wife team Emma McAdam-Marmont and Struan Hopwood. Established in 2017, the gallery began as a dream sparked on a trip to Prague, shaped by the loss of a close friend and a shared desire to build a life centred on creativity. Leaving behind successful careers in advertising, Emma and Struan took a leap of faith to create a space that reflects their collaborative practice and evolving artistic voice.
Today, Thirteen 05 is dedicated exclusively to showcasing Emma and Struan’s own work. This decision allows the gallery to present a cohesive body of work, celebrating the series they create and offering collectors a more personal and immersive experience. Visitors can engage deeply with the stories, processes, and ideas behind each piece — and on weekends, you’ll often meet either Emma or Struan in the gallery, welcoming you into that conversation.
At the core of Thirteen 05 is their creative partnership. Emma’s intuitive, painterly approach is known for textured brushstrokes and an emotive exploration of the human figure. Struan draws from street art, graffiti, and pop culture, layering bold colour, graphic elements, and linework into his practice. Together, their work merges grunge, street influence, and realism into dynamic, layered artworks that feel both raw and refined.
Their process is deeply collaborative. Each piece evolves through a continual exchange — passed back and forth, built up and broken down — until both voices are fully present. Emma often grounds the work through form, structure, and realism, while Struan introduces raw marks, graffiti, and conceptual elements. This ongoing dialogue allows the work to unfold naturally, resulting in paintings that feel resolved yet alive with movement and response.
The gallery reflects this approach. Rather than a traditional rotating roster of artists, Thirteen 05 presents an evolving collection of Emma and Struan’s series-based work, with new pieces arriving regularly. This creates a space where collectors can see the progression of ideas, themes, and techniques over time, and experience the work as part of a larger narrative.
Emma’s solo practice focuses on the human figure, exploring themes of emotion, memory, and connection. Her Bodies series treats the figure as landscape, while Suits presents androgynous, enigmatic forms open to interpretation. Struan’s work is energetic and expressive, drawing on street art and contemporary illustration to evoke nostalgia, identity, and personal experience.
Thirteen 05 has attracted collectors from around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, and South Africa. Emma and Struan also offer commissioned works, from bespoke canvases to large-scale projects, working closely with clients to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Accessibility remains central to the gallery’s philosophy. Flexible payment plans are available, reflecting their belief that art should be approachable and personal, not intimidating or out of reach.
More than a gallery, Thirteen 05 is a shared creative life — a space built on partnership, trust, and storytelling. It is a place where collectors can connect directly with the artists, understand the work beyond the surface, and become part of an ongoing creative journey.
