This latest skull collaboration is a true back-and-forth process. We begin by discussing the overall piece—its mood, colour palette, and direction. Emma starts by painting the skull, laying down the initial form and energy. It’s then passed to Struan, who responds with graffiti, injecting colour, movement, and visual tension. The piece comes back to Emma, where the two styles are blended together, softened, sharpened, and unified. From there, we step back, discuss what it needs, what might be missing, and when it finally feels resolved, the piece is complete.
This series explores identity and the idea that we are made up of many layers. Each skull blends multiple painting styles—some areas are bold and graphic, while others are raw, loose, and expressive. It’s about seeing different sides of a person at once, reflecting how we shift and adapt depending on our environment and experiences.
